U.S. degrees are recognized throughout the world for their excellence.

The United States is home to several thousand colleges and universities, boasting at least ten times as many campuses as in any other country. As a result, the higher education system in the U.S. has something for everyone. Some U.S. colleges and universities stress broad educational principles; others emphasize practical, employment-related skills; and still others specialize in the arts, social sciences or technical fields.

Universities in the U.S. pride themselves on being at the forefront of technology, research and techniques, and in making the best possible equipment and resources available to their students. Even if your field does not directly involve science or engineering, you will have opportunities to become skilled in using the latest technology to conduct research, as well as obtain and process information. American Consulate has introduced a system of prior appointment for Visa Interview. The applicant has to complete the application process through online and pay the Visa fee through designated Banks. On the given interview dates, the applicant has to appear for a personal interview. The interview process is conducted in two days; first day, your biometrics are collected and the second day, the actual interview is conducted.

The applicant should prove that he / she has strong career options after studies back in India or outside USA and also that he / she is not an intending immigrant. While answering the questions, one should be brief and to the point. Since officers have very little time for each applicant, they may not be able to look at many or even any documents at times. Therefore, one should be prepared to explain one’s situation orally and to answer all questions promptly, patiently and confidently.

The applicant will be informed whether he / she has been granted or refused a visa in the same day. The name of the University, whose I-20 has been submitted to the consulate, will also be mentioned on the passport. Therefore, it is advisable to make the final selection of the University very carefully. If, for some reason, your visa is rejected in the first attempt, you can reapply after 3 working days.

The following is a list of some of the documents that you are supposed to carry along with you on the day of VISA interview; however, it is case to case.

  • Passport having validity of at least six months
  • Interview Appointment Letter
  • DS 160 confirmation page
  • I-20 and Admission Letter from the University (carry evidence of Scholarship / Aid / Grant, if any as secondary documentation)
  • SEVIS fee payment receipt
  • Educational Certificates, Degree, Diplomas & Mark Sheets (all originals)
  • Score Reports of TOEFL & GRE / GMAT / SAT
  • Work Experience Certificate / Job offer letter / Pay slip, if employed
